My journey to counselling started a few years ago. I initially completed a Diploma of Counselling and attended university to gain a Bachelor of Counselling. University gave me the professional skills to assist people in practical ways, using psychology-based theory and evidence-based therapy modalities. I also bring to my practice many years of personal life experience, which provides a deeper, more personal level of understanding, which I believe further enriches my counselling skills. The holistic side encompasses you, your relationships, and your community with the belief that the parts of something are intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole. We all experience life in our own unique way, and so I strive to make your sessions with me a collaborative and tailored experience that works best for you. You are the expert of your own life and I am there to support you along the way.
MY APPROACH
I work as an integrative therapist which means I use varying techniques and modalities depending on how you present to me on the day and what will provide the appropriate outcome. My counselling methods draw from aspects of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution focused, and Narrative therapy to mention a few. I am a registered therapist with ACA, and am dedicated to ongoing professional development. Should you come to me with issues more complex or outside of my specialisation I will always let you know, to ensure you get the most suitable support that you need.
GENERAL COUNSELLING
Life can be a series of turns and twists and that can make you experience feeling overwhelmed, create relationship struggles, incite anxiety, or mood issues. You may have a cluster of challenges and don't know where to start to climb back to feeling good. Wherever you are on your journey I can work with you to identify what is causing you to think, feel and act in maladaptive ways and create practical life skills to help you move forward that are tailored specifically to you.
SELF DISCOVERY
Life is full of changes and some of them provide greater challenges than others. Counselling can help you navigate these challenges including to re-identify with yourself, reflect on where you have come from and potentially, where you want to go. This self exploration may assist you in deciding on a career transition, deciding to study, and improving or ending a relationship.

Counselling is my passion, being able to be there as a source of support to those who are in need. We all have inner strength and sometimes it just takes someone to shine a torch on you for you to see your inner qualities. My qualifications are at the University level. I have volunteered as a counsellor for a local organisation and currently work full-time in a psychology clinic when I am not seeing clients in my private practice after hours. I am registered with the Australian Counselling Association.
I look forward to meeting you in session.
Kindly
Maureen Karsten
